Norwegian Grid Operator Lede Pioneers AI-Driven Vegetation Risk Management with StormGeo’s GridEyes

Power Grid Forest

Oslo, Norway, 21.08.2025 – StormGeo, a global leader in weather intelligence and decision support solutions, announced today that Norwegian grid operator Lede will implement its AI-powered and satellite-based solution, GridEyes, to modernize vegetation management and strengthen grid resilience. This collaboration marks StormGeo’s continued expansion into utility grid management, enhancing operational resilience through advanced technology.

Lede will integrate GridEyes into its infrastructure to improve situational awareness, forecast-based risk mitigation, and grid stability in the face of extreme weather.

Developed in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) and Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL), GridEyes is StormGeo’s AI-powered solution for vegetation risk management — tackling one of the leading causes of power outages worldwide. Using satellite imagery and advanced analytics, it helps utilities detect and prioritize encroachment risks before they disrupt service.

“Partnering with StormGeo and adopting GridEyes allows us to modernize our approach to vegetation management and grid resilience,” said Morten Gøytil, Head of Department Maintenance at Lede AS. “With the increasing frequency of extreme weather, it’s critical that we move from reactive to proactive grid maintenance. GridEyes gives us the visibility and predictive tools we need to safeguard our infrastructure and deliver reliable service to our customers.”

“The commercial debut of GridEyes with Lede marks an important milestone for StormGeo’s solutions suite for utilities,” said Carsten Torbergsen, Senior Vice President – Energy at StormGeo. “It demonstrates how utilities can move toward data-driven vegetation risk management using scalable, predictive technology. With climate-related disruptions on the rise, solutions like GridEyes are becoming essential to safeguarding grid reliability around the world.”

GridEyes is part of StormGeo’s global Utility Solution Suite — trusted by hundreds of clients — working alongside tools for weather forecasting, outage prediction, and extreme weather response.
